A light drizzle couldn’t keep away a festive group of students, faculty and staff that celebrated the lighting of this year’s Christmas tree here on campus.
Members of both the choir and band were on hand to get the crowd into the spirit with a traditional selection of Christmas songs.
Students lit candles one by one as representatives from
Campus Ministry shared prayers and good tidings for a blessed season.
Following the celebration, the crowd brushed off the chill with a round of hot chocolate and cookies, all of which was provided by Student Affairs.
In the past, the University used to purchase a 10-15-ft tree for the Christmas season.
This year, a redesign of the plantings in the turnaround near the entrance to campus prompted the planting of a special tree that will be used in Christmas seasons to come.
According to Director of
Campus Operations Floyd Young, Sacred Heart wanted to start using a tree that would “grow with the University.”
