Service-learning (Friday mornings, included with any ES course)
On each Friday morning, students have the opportunity to participate in community service activities as a part of their English language learning experience.  The purpose of these activities is to practice English in real-life contexts and to experience different aspects of American culture, while doing something that helps people in some way in our surrounding community.  Some of the topics covered in class will relate to these service activities.  Therefore, students will have opportunities to connect their experiences of service with their classroom learning.  Students are encouraged to keep a journal in which they express their questions, feelings and observations.  Service-learning is a unique and special aspect of Sacred Heart's ESL program and many students have found these experiences extremely rewarding and beneficial to their language development.

Online Grammar Program (included with any ES course)
Grammar needs can be very different from student to student.  Therefore, we believe it is best to address grammar problems as they appear in student production.  Some time is spent in class on grammar, but students in the ESL program also work independently through our Blackboard Online Grammar Program.
