Julie Stewart, DNP, MSN, MPH, FNP-BC, Assistant Professor, Sacred Heart University Nursing Program. Julie received her DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) from Case Western Reserve University, MSN/FNP from Sacred Heart University, MPH from the UCONN Health Center, and BSN from SUNY/Regents College. She is a distinguished Alumna of the 1997 class of the Graduate Nursing Program at SHU. Dr. Stewart was named the CT Nurse Practitioner of the year for 2006 by the CT Advance Practice Nurse Association, and also received the CEHP Alumni Leadership Award 2006. Presently, Dr. Stewart is chairperson for the CTAPRNS Government Relations committee.
Dr. Stewart has provided comprehensive medical care and support services to patients infected with HIV as a certified HIV Specialist. After working for many years at Stamford Hospital in a variety of roles including critical care staff development prior to working as a family nurse practitioner in OB/Gyn, and then HIV, she went on to then holding the position of Director of Clinical Services for an AIDS Center in Brooklyn, NY. Currently she has a clinical practice at Southwest Community Health Center, which includes providing care for HIV and hepatitis C infected patients, and general medical care at an area homeless shelter. She has also worked as a medical forensic examiner for pediatric sexual assault cases in Stamford, CT. Scholarly interests and publications include HIV quality improvement, medication adherence issues, battered women, gender reassignment, HIV care for the homeless, and empowerment among nurse practitioners.
