The Mayor of New York City on September 11th, 2001, Rudy Giuliani gained international prominence and respect for his leadership following the 9/11 attacks. His campaign for the GOP presidential nomination ended earlier this year.

Giuliani was born in 1944 in Brooklyn, NY. After joining the office of the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, he rose quickly through the ranks, becoming the Chief of the Narcotics Unit at age 29. In 1981, he was named Associate Attorney General, and in 1983, President Reagan appointed him US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

In 1993, Giuliani was elected Mayor of the City of New York. Campaigning on the slogan, “One City, One Standard,” he focused on reducing crime, reforming welfare and improving the quality of life.

In the aftermath of the September 11 World Trade Center attacks in 2001, he was named “Person of the Year” by Time magazine, knighted by the Queen of England, and presented with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Freedom Award.
