CHRISTIAN HISTORY, THEOLOGY, AND DOCTRINE
Protestantism and Eastern Orthodoxy are very diverse traditions. Research may start with the comprehensive gateways listed under World Religions above. The Bible and patristic texts are shared by all Christians. Much of the information under the Catholic heading also applies to the Protestant and Orthodox branches of Christianity. Other recommended links follow.

  • Virtual Religion Index – Comprehensive and well-organized resources on all branches and major eras of Christianity

  • Religion-Online – A wide-ranging resources of articles—some popular, many scholarly—and whole books from 20th century and contemporary Christian theologians.

  • Beliefnet.com – A popular and wide-ranging site on contemporary Christianity: surveys, opinion pieces, and inspirational writing. This is not a scholarly site, but it does provide a good window on the interests of contemporary Christians and the debates within the religion.

  • Saint Pachomius Library –Patristic texts from the Eastern Orthodox tradition

  • Protestant Reformation Resources – A gateway to original texts in translation and some secondary sources on the Protestant Reformation and its several “wings”

  • Martin Luther Library – The 15th century Protestant Reformer's writings and preaching

  • Mennonite Confession of Faith – A representative faith-statement from the peace-church wing of the Reformation

  • National Council of Churches – A national ecumenical organization of Protestant, Orthodox, Anglican, and African-American traditions. The NCC links to the official websites of each member denomination.

  • World Council of Churches – The WCC is similar to the NCC, but worldwide

Not represented in the NCC and WCC are large groups of Protestant churches associated with the movements of
  • Evangelicalism, Fundamentalism, and Pentecostalism.  These links are descriptive articles on those three movements
