SHU on iTunes U is a joint project of the Information Technology Department (ITD), the Office of Institutional Advancement (IA) and Web Content Management (WCM). SHU on iTunes U day to day operations will be managed by an iTunes U System Administrator designated by ITD
SHU on iTunes U contains both public content available to everyone as well as private content limited to faculty and staff or to students in a particular SHU course during a specific semester. Different policies may apply for public versus private content.
Uploaded content comes from a variety of sources and does not necessarily represent the opinions or policies of Sacred Heart University
Storage and bandwidth
Space permitting, the system administrator recognizes that posting material already online to iTunes U can be beneficial. However, storage and bandwidth issues may cause the system administrator to limit uploaded material to that which is unique to iTunes U or which is judged by the system administrator to be most appropriately distributed by this medium.
Uploading and Managing Content
Creating, uploading and monitoring private content is the responsibility of SHU schools, departments and organizations that have requested space on iTunes U. Forms to identify the iTunes U representative for a school, department, or organization are available in PDF and Word format. Only the iTunes U Administrator may upload content to the Public Content section of iTunes U.
Where possible, uploading private, course-related content will be the responsibility of the content creator or producer. The Media Services Department will supply training to the appropriate people for uploading course-related materials. A form for requesting space on iTunes U for a course is available here.
The iTunes U System Administrator will be responsible for monitoring storage and bandwidth limits on the iTunes U site to avoid Apple charging SHU additional fees or reducing storage/bandwidth. However, all departmental iTunes U administrators are expected to monitor their own usage. Although there are currently no departmental storage or bandwidth quotas, it may be necessary to institute these in the future.
SHU’s iTunes U System Administrator will be responsible for monitoring the technical quality of public content. However, all departmental iTunes U administrators are expected to assure that the materials uploaded to iTunes U are in the proper file format and encoding. Guidelines for preparing content are available in PDF and Word format.
The iTunes U System Administrator will monitor that uploaded materials conform to proper naming conventions and the metadata is appropriately tagged. Guidelines for preparing content and metadata tagging are under development.
Content creators are responsible for maintaining local archival copies of materials uploaded to iTunes U. Neither Apple nor SHU's iTunes U Systems Administrator are responsible for maintaining backups of iTunes U content.
Apple does not promise that iTunes U will be available at all times. Faculty, staff and students are cautioned to prepare contingency plans in the event that the iTunes website is not available.
