Frances S. Grodzinsky, Professor of Computer Science and Information Technology, received a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1980, an MCIS from the University of New Haven in 1986, and an MA from the University of Illinois in 1969. Her teaching focus includes Computer Ethics, Software Engineering, Systems Analysis and Design, Networking, and Human Computer Interaction, and her research includes computer ethics Identity and Community (Cyberstalking, Open Source Software, Collaborative Learning, and Pedagogical Techniques). Dr. Grodzinsky joined the Sacred Heart University faculty in 1984.
Dr. Grodzinsky has been published widely. Her most recent work includes “Ethical Issues in Open Source Software” with Keith Miller and Marty J. Wolfe Readings in Cyberethics, Spinello and Tavani., 2nd edition, forthcoming Jones and Bartlett, 2004; and Reinventing Collaborative Learning using Blackboard: A Web-Based Resource, In the Teaching of A Multi-Institutional Computer Ethics Module with Joe Griffin and Pat Jeffries, Proceedings Ethicomp 2002 Lisbon Portugal. Her numerous awards and accomplishments include being the Visiting Scholar in Computer Ethics at Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, CT and at Swinbourne University, Melbourne Australia; Citation for Service to Cultural Affairs Commission, Mayor of New Haven, 1994; and Faculty Scholarship Award, Sacred Heart University, 1994. Dr. Grodzinsky was elected to the board of INSEIT (The International Society for Ethics and Information Technology), and is a member of APPE, SIGSCE, SIGCAS, AAUP, and AAUW.
