BS IN NURSING

Shelly Hoskins, Clinical Learning Coordinator, teaches Sophomore nursing students the importance of proper tracheal care

BSN Program

Why SHU?
The Nursing program at Sacred Heart University is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Personal attention and interaction between the faculty and student is a major focus in the department. The majority of the Nursing faculty hold doctoral degrees or are certified nurse practitioners and are active professionals with state and national recognition. The faculty acts as advisors to students, beginning with pre-nursing freshman activities during the first year of study. Throughout the four years of study students are assisted in developing critical thinking skills and professional knowledge, skills and values. Upon graduation, students earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and are eligible to take the Registered Nurse licensure examination (NCLEX), as well as apply to any Master of Science in Nursing program throughout the country including the programs at Sacred Heart University.

What the degree prepares you for:
The BSN degree prepares women and men for the professional practice of nursing in a variety of settings such as hospitals, home care agencies and community-based health care facilities. It also prepares students who wish to further education into graduate nursing coursework.

Admission Criteria
Qualified applicants are admitted into the University as pre-nursing students and are guaranteed a seat as a sophomore nursing student if they meet or exceed freshman pre-requisite coursework and GPA requirements.
