REGISTERED PARAPLANNER

Where the jobs are! The financial services industry will be one of the top three providers of jobs, in the next five years, according to Department of Labor statistics.

PROGRAM IS DESIGNED FOR: 

Individuals new to the financial services industry, sales assistants, and frontline personnel. 
Individuals currently working with these financial institutions:

  • Banks
  • Insurance
  • Law offices
  • Brokerage firms
  • Individuals in career transitions
  • Individuals seeking financial knowledge for their own personal finances 

The Registered ParaplannerSM designation is a valued credential to clients and the financial planning industry at large.  It enables students to gain basic, practical knowledge of the financial planning process and the five disciplines of financial planning. 

The Registered ParaplannerSM Program is made up of a 12 week course of study and a 3 month internship.


COURSE WORK:

The RPSM is a survey course covering the basics of financial planning. The study guides used in the Financial Planning Certificate Program are published by the College of Financial Planning.

 Topics include:

  • The Financial Planning Process
  • Financial Statements & Cash Flow Management
  • The time Value of Money
  • Investment Principles & Mutual Funds
  • Equities & Debt Instruments
  • Tax Planning
  • Retirement Planning
  • Introduction to Insurance
  • Life & Health Insurance
  • Estate Planning

INTERNSHIP:
 

The three month internship is designed to demonstrate practical application of the concepts presented in the Registered ParaplannerSM course. During the internship period students demonstrate mastery of a set of basic skills, including:

  • Communication
  • Data-gathering
  • The ability to utilize financial planning software
  • Construction of financial statements
  • Perform a preliminary analysis of client information – to identify basic strengths and weaknesses in a client's financial situation relating to risk management issues, investment issues income tax issues, retirement issues, etc.

Students also complete the RPSM Professional Code of Ethics.  This code establishes minimum standards of acceptable professional conduct for individuals.
