Pioneer Bands

The Sacred Heart University Pioneer Bands is one of the largest collegiate band programs in New England.  The Pioneer Marching Band is in demand as a showcase performer throughout the northeast, and has performed at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Greenwich Village Halloween Parade, Stamford Thanksgiving Parade, and St. Patrick’s Day Parades in both NYC and Boston.  The band has also appeared in national television commercials for Verizon Wireless, and Publisher’s Clearing House, as well as an appearance on MTV.  The Pep Band performs for men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s ice hockey games.  The University Concert Band performs concerts featuring repertoire from the wind band repertoire.

Description: This is a Graduate Assistant position through the Sacred Heart University Pioneer Bands.  The successful applicant will have experience instructing players of various levels in both marching and concert settings, be very well organized, and be able to function with minimal supervision, while also being part of the band staff.  The Band GA also works as part of the Student Life staff, and will attend weekly staff meetings, and assist in various SL events as assigned.  The Band GA reports to the Director of Bands, and works closely with the Assistant Director of Bands. 

Duties: Primary areas of responsibility will include:

· Administrative organization and support for the Band Department

· Administrative support for the Guard Program

· Scheduling and support of the university’s mascot

· Assist in the teaching of drill and other areas during marching band camp and season TBD based on the applicants area of experience.

· Assist in the recruitment and retention of new members to the band, and new students to Sacred Heart University.

· Development of new initiatives as appropriate. 

· Attendance at band camp, rehearsals, and performances.

Salary: This is an 11 month Graduate assistant position from August - June.  GA package includes $750/mo stipend for 11 months, student medical coverage, meal allowance, and tuition for up to 18 credits per year (depending on the graduate program).

Qualifications: Demonstrated relevant experience working with marching bands/percussion sections. Excellent sense of humor, ability and willingness to focus on long-term growth of the program.  Bachelor’s degree required.
