SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY TO HOST "DAY OF PERCUSSION"

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— On Saturday, April 5, 2008, the Sacred Heart University Pioneer Bands program will be the host for the Percussive Arts Society’s “Day of Percussion”.  Presented by the CT chapter of the PAS, the event will bring together internationally renowned performing artists, as well as some of the nations top college ensembles.

The 2008 “Day of Percussion” features Saturday Night Live drummer Shawn Pelton and NFL Films recording artist Chris Hanning.  There will also be presentations and performances from international taiko drumming artist Marco Lienhard, and the NYU and Ithaca College steel pan ensembles.

The Percussive Arts Society is the largest organization in the world dedicated to percussion education, research, performance, and appreciation. The PAS attracts the top percussion artists from all over the world to present and perform in such diverse topics as drum set, marching, keyboard, symphonic, timpani, world, recreational, education, music technology, new music, and health and wellness.

Registration for the “Day of Percussion,” co-hosted by CT chapter President Jim Royle, begins at 9:00 am, with events and performances taking place in the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts, and the University Commons.  Registration is $10 for PAS members, and $15 for the general public.
