STEPS TO FILE FOR AID, 2008-2009 ACADEMIC YEAR
Don't Be An April Fool! Your FAFSA is Due April 1st!

It's that time of the year again, and no one wants to be the fool. If you haven't filed your 2008-09 FAFSA there is still time, but you should do it as soon as possible. The priority date for the FAFSA is April 1, 2008. If we receive your FAFSA late, your financial assistance may be delayed or not renewed -- and that's not something to laugh about.

We highly recommend that you complete your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Remember to have both yours and your parent's pin numbers available when you file your FAFSA online if you are a dependent student. If you forgot or lost the PIN number(s), you can retrieve them at www.pin.ed.gov .

You must also complete the 2008-09 Confidential Information Form and these vary by the type of student you are. This form collects updated information about you that will be helpful to us when we create your new financial aid package. Most of you should have already gotten an email with a link to the online form. Just in case, here they are, according to your student type:

New full-time freshmen and transfer students: These are the only students who do not need to complete a University Confidential Information Form.  Instead, incoming freshmen and transfers complete the CSS Profile at https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp

Returning full-time Students:  All returning full-time undergraduates must, in addition to the FAFSA, complete the Upperclass Confidential Information form which is now available online at SHUawards.  Simply log on using your 7 digit student ID and the PIN number which was sent to you in a previous email.  Once logged in simply click the "apply online" tab and complete.

New and returning part-time University College students:  In addition to the FAFSA, all part-time undergraduates must complete the University College Confidential Information form which will be available by the end of April 2008.

New and returning graduate students:  In addition to the FAFSA, all graduate students must complete the Graduate Confidential Information form which will be available by mid April 2008.

You can also log into your SHUAwards account using the information in the email we are in the process of sending and complete the forms there. We hope by now you have accessed your personal financial aid account at SHU Awards. You can check everything from the status of your awards and loans to received and missing documents that we need for your file. Emails and letters were sent earlier this academic year with your PIN and instructions on how to use this new online awards system, and many continue to be sent (particularly to the part time undergraduates and graduate students).  If this sounds brand new to you and you don’t know what we are talking about please contact our office at 203-371-7980.

Apart from the FAFSA and Confidential Information form, and CSS Profile depending on the type of student you are, selected students will be asked to submit their 2007 Federal Tax Returns (parent and student for dependent students), W2’s and 2008-09 Verification Worksheet. Those students who are required to provide these forms will be notified by the SFA office. Please know that your aid WILL NOT BE PROCESSED unless all the required documents are received and complete.

For any full time undergraduate students with academic scholarships, be aware of the GPA requirements for renewal of your scholarship.  Students will be informed in writing if they have not maintained the required GPA for renewal of academic scholarships. In addition, students placed on academic probation will be notified and subject to non-renewal of aid. Please do not hesitate to contact your SFA counselor if you have any questions or concerns. We’re here to help you!
