We are fairly new to campus being established only three years ago in 2005. The club was founded with intentions to provide an opportunity for both male and female students to begin or continue with their interest in the game of field hockey.
As a club sport, we have practices and games. We are not as serious or demanding as a varsity team, but hold reasonable expectations of our members. We practice as often as possible, which in the fall was about twice a week. When competing in games we face other colleges in the northeast. Some past competition include Yale, UMass Amherst, Adelphi, and Northeastern. We hold team dinners, and participate in campus events by fulfilling our community service, spirit, fundraising, and campus wide events. Currently we are made up of 25 members. Most of the members are first year student, since we are such a young club. Since this is the case, the club is expected to grow immensely with every incoming class. The club has an executive board of 5 members, co-presidents, a vice president, secretary, and treasurer. However, not all the responsibility is left up to them. Members are encouraged to participate and get involved as much as possible with planning and executing events.
This year we set goals for ourselves to have at least one game the fall semester, and four in the spring. We reached our goal for the fall, but in the spring have only three games. Over the past three years this club has seen some awesome and exciting changes, and only looks better for the future. Other goals included putting a strong focus on fundraising and develop our team’s unity.
