October 20th – November 24th, 2002
Reception: October 27th, 1- 3:30 PM
This exhibit consists of 23 works – paintings, etchings and lithographs, or prints created with a combination of techniques. The works are a celebration of the creative spirit that consistently redefines itself in rare individuals like Barnet. To continue to grow, to reinvent oneself, and to create new and exciting works in one's ninth decade is an extraordinary testament to the inquiring mind of an artist whose reputation is secure.

 | Then and Now, 1989-90 Oil on canvas 53 1/4" x 45" |
Born in Beverly, Massachusetts, in 1911, Will Barnet is a New Englander by birth and by temperament. Barnet is universally respected as an innovative painter and printmaker. From the social-realism of the 30's, to abstract works of the 40's and 50's, to the figurative works of the last four decades, he has remained truthful to the elegance of his vision.
His works explore human relationships, primarily that of family. The pared down, elegant portraits, at home or in the landscape, reveal that which is familiar and timeless.
