FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who is eligible for a laptop?
All full-time undergraduate students are currently eligible to receive a laptop at no additional charge. Part-time and Graduate students have the option of renting a laptop from the Program as well.

How much does it cost to be a part of the program?
There is no fee or additional charge associated with the Program for full-time undergraduate students. Charges are only assessed when negligence is determined in a damaged or stolen laptop. For more information on insurance and warranties click here.

Who owns the laptop?
The laptops are officially the property of Sacred Heart University. We provide them to students, faculty, and staff for personal, academic, and official use. If for any reason you are no longer a full-time student, faculty or staff of the University, the laptop must be returned immediately to the program coordinator. Failure to do so could result in financial penalties. If you are dropping out of full-time status for a short period of time, we will hold the laptop for you. Otherwise for all intents and purposes, the laptop should be used as if it were your own.

Upon graduation after at least two years of full-time status and a Bachelor's degree, the University will sign off ownership of a two year old laptop to you.

What do I do if there is a problem or malfunction with my laptop?
Your laptop is covered by warranty and insurance against damage and theft. You can bring it to The Factory to have it diagnosed and repaired if necessary. The Notebook Service Center, which is located in The Factory, can provide over the counter troubleshooting and repair. If your laptop cannot be repaired at the counter, another one will be issued from inventory immediately unless you specify otherwise.

I am a current student but I will not be returning next semester or I have not registered for classes during early registration. How should I proceed?
If on the last day of finals you are not registered for the following semester, please return your laptop to the program coordinator. If you intend to register later, ask us to keep your laptop for you until you register. If you keep the laptop after the return date at the end of finals week, your account will be assessed a $1,000 fee. There is a five day grace period in which the $1,000 fee can be reversed and a $10.00 rental fee will be assessed instead. Not return the laptop is considered Theft of University property.

Do I need to bring my laptop in during the year?
Yes. Around the month of March there is a mandatory Laptop Inventory Check. If you do not bring your laptop to be verified, you will not be able to register for the following semester. You will receive notifications via e-mail and in the mail prior to the beginning of Inventory Check with instructions.

What should I do if my laptop is stolen?
If you are an on campus resident report the theft to Public Safety immediately. When off campus, please report the theft to the local police department. Obtain a police report and contact the program coordinator immediately. There are time constraints with filing any insurance claim so it is important to act immediately and notify all the parties above.
