CLAIRE PAOLINI, PH.D.
Claire J. Paolini, Ph.D., Professor of Spanish and Dean of the
College of Arts and Sciences, received a B.A. in Spanish from
Boston University, an M.A. from
Middlebury College (
Spanish School), and a Ph.D. in Spanish and Portuguese from
Tulane University.
She joined the
Sacred Heart University faculty as Dean in 1997.
Her research interests include Twentieth Century Spanish Literature, with special emphasis on the novels of Valle-Inclán and the literature of the Spanish Civil War. She has published numerous articles in scholarly journals, including
Ojáncano, Letras Penisulares, Discurso Literario, Hispanófila, and others.
She is author of the monographs The Narrative Art of Domingos Monteiro (Dist. Sociedade de Expansao Cultural, Lisbon, Portugal) and Valle-Inclán’s Modernism: Use and Abuse of Religious and Mystical Symbolism (Albatros Ediciones, Valencia, Spain). She is also the editor of the 1995 and 1997 editions of LA CHISPA, Selected Proceedings and co-editor of the 1999 edition.
