Mark J. Mascia, Ph.D., Department Chair, Associate Professor and Spanish Coordinator, received a B.A. (summa cum laude) in Spanish with a minor in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania, and an M.A., M. Phil., and Ph.D. from
Columbia University (Department of Spanish and Portuguese). He joined the
Sacred Heart University faculty in 1999.
His research interests include Golden Age Spanish Literature (prose, poetry, and theatre of the 16
th and 17
th Centuries), 20
th Century Latin American Poetry, and the 20
th Century Spanish Novel. He has taught a wide variety of classes in Spanish at all levels, and has developed new courses in the major, among them the Society of Golden Age Spain and Spanish Golden Age Literature.
He has published numerous articles in scholarly journals, including The Romanic Review, Romance Notes, Hispanic Journal, and Letras Peninsulares, among others.
