ART EXHIBIT AT SHU’S GALLERY FEATURES WORK OF FACULTY
The Gallery of Contemporary Art at Sacred Heart University is presenting a faculty exhibit of fine art and graphic design,

Fragments of the Future
Nathan Lewis
Oil on canvas, 4’ x 5’

which will run through December 10, 2007.

An “Artist’s Talk” will also be held at the gallery on Thursday, November 29, and will feature Professor Nathan Lewis, who will speak about the processes and development of his evocative paintings.  His work, including a 4’ x 5’ oil on canvas painting titled “Fragments of the Future,” is displayed along with 32 other works from 10 of his colleagues.

Other faculty artists from the University’s Department of Art and Design include: Adjunct Professor Stefan Buda (Derby), Professor Jack de Graffenreid (Trumbull), Professor Theodore Gutswa (New Haven), Dr. Anahit Ter-Stepanian (Shelton), Professor Jonathan Walker (Fairfield), Adjunct Professor Carl Schumann (Fairfield), Adjunct Professor Leslie Cober-Gentry (Fairfield), Instructor Mike Denysenko (West Haven), Adjunct Professor Vladimir Schpitalnik (Branford), and Professor Mary Treschitta (Fairfield).

According to Sophia Gevas, director of the Gallery of Contemporary Art, this exhibit shows, in a tangible way, the extensive knowledge and technical skill these instructors bring to their work and to their students. And, most importantly, this exhibit illustrates the essential point that mastery of technical skills, coupled with individual creative imagination, is essential for turning craft into art.

“This exhibit provides an opportunity to view the professional works of the Art and Design faculty, a varied and talented group of artists. It's especially important for students to have the opportunity to view the works of their professors and see the ideas behind much of the art criticism that comes their way. Sacred Heart University's Art and Design students are in very good hands,” said Gevas.

The Gallery of Contemporary Art at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Avenue, Fairfield, is open Monday – Thursday, 12–5 and Sundays, 12–4. Admission is free. For further information, please contact Sophia Gevas at 203-365-7650 or gevass@sacredheart.edu. Website: http://artgallery.sacredheart.edu.
