THOMAS GALLAGHER

Thomas Gallagher, MS, RCEP, EMT-B, has been working as a clinical exercise physiologist for the past 21 years in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. His primary area of interest is cardiac rehabilitation, but he has worked for many years in the orthopedic clinic doing therapeutic exercise with a variety of populations.

Tom's undergraduate degree is in Health and Physical Education / Athletic Training and his graduate degree is Exercise Physiology / Cardiac rehab.

He is a registered clinical exercise physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine and recently passed the certification exam as an EMT Basic. As part of his job at Griffin Hospital, he must maintain his Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Tom's career started at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center working on an inpatient diabetic unit doing exercise prescriptions and community education. For the years that followed, he worked in the corporate fitness industry (NYC), clinically in hospitals (Bridgeport, Norwalk and Griffin Hospitals), and the nursing home industry.

He has been affiliated with Sacred Heart University for the past seven years, working as guest speaker, adjunct professor, and clinical supervisor for students working in the field.

Tom loves teaching and sharing his years of experience working in the field.  He feels that it can greatly benefit the students and assist them in deciding what career paths to take.

Tom has been married to his wife Sharon for the past 11 years.  Both are physically active, enjoying running, biking and snow skiing.  Baseball and basketball are his favorite sports and he is an avid Red Sox fan.
