Tony is originally from the
New York metropolitan area and earned a BS in Business Administration in 1981 from the State University of New York at Fredonia.
After 15+ years in marketing research and advertising in
Los Angeles and
New York, he embarked on a career change initiated with pre-medical coursework at
Western Connecticut State University.
He received his MS in Applied Anatomy/Physiology from
Boston University while working in the human physiology laboratory for nutrition, exercise performance and aging on studies among athletes and geriatric populations.
Tony earned his doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) from
Slippery Rock University near
Pittsburgh, PA.Tony began teaching at SHU in Fall 2006. He was a guest lecturer in marketing research at the University of Southern California and taught anatomy/physiology at Berkeley College in New York. He is currently Site Coordinator for Healthsouth Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in Trumbull, CT, where he treats patients on a full time basis while also managing clinic operations. Prior to Healthsouth, Tony worked at PRO Sports Physical Therapy in Scarsdale, NY and collaborated with colleagues from the Nicholas Institute for Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Orthopedic and sports medicine are his clinical areas of specialization; he has treated a diverse patient population that includes both pediatric and geriatric age groups, as well as high school, collegiate and professional athletes.
Tony has authored and co-authored several research studies published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Journal of Gerontology, and American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He co-authored a chapter on plyometrics for the textbook, Rehabilitation of the Injured Athlete and has authored a chapter for the Sports Physical Therapy Section (APTA) 2005 home study course. He is currently the managing editor for the 2006 home study courses, The Aging Athlete and Injury Prevention. He is slated to author a chapter on articular cartilage for 2007. He has presented original research findings at national APTA Combined Sections Meeting as well as the CPTA Annual Conference. His continuing research pursuits include exercise and aging, shoulder rehabilitation and sports medicine/orthopedics.
Tony has worked intermittently in a variety of strength, conditioning and fitness capacities over the years. In addition, he spent 4 years as a volunteer EMT-I with the Bethel (CT) Volunteer Fire Dept/Ambulance Corps, where he also served as medical director for the Board of Directors. He currently serves on the CT Physical Therapy Association Board of Directors as the SW District Vice Chair. Tony’s personal time is spent with family and friends; he is very active in weightlifting, running, biking and most sports. He holds several national and regional drug-free bodybuilding titles.
