JEFFREY CAIN, PH.D.
Jeffrey Cain, Ph.D.Jeffrey Patton Cain, Ph.D., is Chair of the English Department at Sacred Heart University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in 1999 and joined the SHU faculty in the same year.  Also Coordinator of Assessment for the College of Arts and Sciences, he teaches composition classes at both the introductory and advanced levels.  His other regular courses include both History and Structure of the English Language and Critical Theory.  Dr. Cain's research interests include post-structuralist literary theory and cultural studies, and he has published articles and presented several conference papers focusing on the work of noted French theorist Gilles Deleuze.  He reviews books and articles for the scholarly journal, Deleuze Studies, and he is a past president of the Northeast Popular Culture Association (NEPCA). Recently, he finished a term of service on the executive board of the National Popular Culture/American Culture Association (PCA/ACA). He is currently at work on a book that explores the links between everyday cultural artifacts and the concept of abstract or social machines.
