"FROM ATHEISM TO ISLAM: AN AMERICAN JOURNEY” BY BRIDGEPORT NATIVE AND UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS PROFESSORJeffrey Lang, Ph.D. to discuss his spiritual journey from atheist to devout Muslim
Jeffrey Lang, Ph.D., one of the most prominent Muslim speakers in America today and a professor of Mathematics at the University of Kansas, will present "From Atheism to Islam: An American Journey," on Thursday, September 6, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture will take place in the Pitt Center Board Room.
Dr. Lang will describe his spiritual journey from atheist to devout Muslim as he focuses on questions such as “why would God create such an imperfect world?” “does the presence of evil and suffering in the world disprove the existence of God?” and “what is the purpose of earthly life, of suffering, of evil?”
Dr. Lang, a Bridgeport native, was born into a Roman Catholic family. He attended Notre Dame High School and struggled with his faith before becoming an atheist at the age of 18. He later converted to Islam and is the co-founder and advisor of “generation Islam” an organization that works to give a voice to North American born Muslims “in the continued evolution of Muslim society in North America, creating institutions which are genuinely inclusive and fostering an environment which is both authentically Muslim and comfortably North American.”
Dr. Lang, is the author of three books, “Even Angels Ask: A Journey to Islam in America,” “Losing My Religion: A Call For Help” and “Struggling to Surrender: Some Impressions of an American Convert to Islam.”
