Catholics who have completed their sacraments may be called to serve as lectors, Eucharistic ministers or altar servers.
Lectors have the responsibility to proclaim the Scriptures at Mass and other liturgical ministries.
Eucharistic Ministers are called to minister Holy Communion – the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ – during the Eucharist or while visiting the sick or elderly; they help the priest and deacon who are the ordinary ministers of this sacrament.
Altar Servers assist the presider in various respects during masses and other liturgical celebrations.
At Sacred Heart University students are especially invited to serve the community in these ways. No prior experience is necessary. Applicants will receive proper training and spiritual development opportunities. Their whole life should witness the word they proclaim and show the love of God we celebrate in the holy mysteries.
