GOING GREEN

GOING GREEN
Going “green” for the health of our campus—and our planet

Among the most important priorities for ongoing campus improvements is the imperative to use environmentally sustainable designs and construction techniques wherever possible. This will result in a campus that’s more economical and efficient to maintain, as well as making an important statement about our priorities as a community. Some ways we’re thinking differently about development and architecture are:

“Green” roofing
By using low-maintenance plants to cover roofing where appropriate, we can slow water drainage, lower maintenance costs and provide superior insulation to take the load off heating and cooling systems.

“Green” parking
By increasing the number of trees and grassy areas around parking areas, we will decrease the heat radiance from existing blacktop, reducing cooling needs.

Glass walls
Using glass in key locations will not only improve the feel of openness and community, it will also provide natural light and heat.

Recycled materials
Wherever possible, alternative building materials, such as carpets made from recycled materials instead of vinyl floor coverings, will be used to help reduce the burden on the environment.
