SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY NAMES ASSOCIATE DEAN OF COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HEALTH PROFESSIONS

Dr. Michael Emery, 13-year veteran of SHU faculty, promoted to newly created position

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart University has announced that Dr. Michael Emery, a member of the faculty since 1994, has been promoted to associate dean of the College of Education and Health Professions.

Emery will be responsible for developing faculty and curriculum within the college—including assisting with promoting scholarship activities and preparing for various program accreditations and credentials—and will help the college’s faculties develop clinical practice outlets.

“I’m really excited about doing this,” Emery said. “I think it will bring some great new challenges, and hopefully some positive new things for the college will come out of it. And I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to work more closely with faculty in other departments of the college in addition to my own.”

Emery has also been promoted from associate to full professor, will continue to teach one or two courses per semester, and will maintain his previous role as department chair of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Science.

Now starting his 14th year at SHU, Emery is a former associate professor and program coordinator of the Physical Therapy department at the University of Vermont. He earned all three of his degrees from UVM—a bachelor’s in physical therapy in 1975, a master’s in organizational development in 1981, and doctorate in educational administration in 1990.
