Dr. Greer came to
Sacred Heart University in 2006 from
Florida State University where he received a Ph.D. in exercise physiology as well as two University Fellowship Awards for academic excellence.
He received a M.A. in exercise science in 2002 from
Furman University in
Greenville, SC, where he also received a B.S. the previous year in health and exercise science.
In 2001 and 2002, respectively, he was certified by the
American College of Sports Medicine as a Health/Fitness Instructor and by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
Dr. Greer worked part-time in the health/fitness industry for 9 years, focusing primarily on athletic conditioning and nutritional counseling. He has worked extensively with mentally handicapped clients as well as children with muscular dystrophy. In 2001 and 2002, he won two World championship titles in powerlifting.
Research interests include dietary supplement efficacy and safety, amino acid metabolism during endurance exercise, and adaptation to resistance training. He is professionally active through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national conferences. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, traveling, and all forms of art appreciation.
