Fall 2007 Intramural Wrap Up



FLAG FOOTBALL

21 teams competed in three Flag Football leagues. The Sunday League featured 13 teams in four pools. The champions were Those Damn Kids while two teams tied for second: Team 41 and Flint Tropics.

The Wednesday League featured some overlapping teams from Sunday and showcased 14 teams. The champions were GFY while the runners-up were Team McLovin.

The Overflow League was led by The Midget Squad, who was 3-0 after pool play.  Team Mazz threatened Midget Squad's perfect record in the last regular season game, but came up short, 28-35. The playoffs proved a revival for all teams as #2 seed Team Mazz squeaked out the win over #3 seed, Whoopie Goldberg, 49-42.  The win led them to the Championship game against #1 seed, Midget Squad. Both teams were tied after regulation, 28-28; the score remained tied after the first OT segment.  The Midget Squad captured the title with a final score of 35-28.

VOLLEYBALL

Tuesday Champion: Stanky Chickens
Thursday Champion: Bumpin Uglies

Ten teams competed in two leagues  – Tuesdays and a late night Thursday league.  The five team pool was led by The Stanky Chickens who finished 4-0 after pool play and garnered the #1 seed going into the playoffs.  In Week 3, the Free Agents and the Stanky Chickens were both undefeated and squared off.  The Free Agents fell in a three game match, solidifying Stanky Chicken’s first place seed. Third seed, Lil Spanky’s, defeated the Free Agents to advance to the Championship match against the Stanky Chickens, who won in two games and were crowned the Tuesday night Champions. 

Seven teams participated in the Late Night League. The Stanky Chickens and the Bumpin Uglies dominated the league finishing pool play with records of 5-1 and 6-0, respectively. The two teams actually faced each other the first night of pool play in early October where Bumpin Uglies took the win in the two games. Teams were seeded after pool play and the top four made it into the championships. The top four were (1) Bumpin Uglies, (2) Stanky Chickens, (3) Scuba Steve’s Underwater Protection Squad and (4) BAMF. BAMF took a game from the #1 Bumpin Uglies but could not hold on for the win, falling 13-25, 25-20, 25-7. #3 seed Scuba Steve’s team came out strong and knocked out #2 Stanky Chickens in two games, 25-21, 25-21 and took on The Bumpin Uglies in the championship. Bumpin Uglies held strong taking the championship crown with scores of 25-11, 25-15. Stanky Chickens defeated BAMF in the consolation match, 25-14, 25-11.

                                                                                                                               
DODGEBALL

Thirteen teams arrived at the Pitt for Dodgeball mania on November 6th. Day 1 featured a separate four-team pool of freshmen where teams played a round robin format. South 2 dominated with a 4-0 record while Moose Knuckles and the Average Janes came out tied at 2-2. The Decepticons were 1-3 after pool play.

Unforgivable, South 2 and Alpha emerged undefeated from the pack on Day 1. Day Two’s format was a double elimination. Unforgivable went quickly losing its first two games. South 2 and Alpha eventually met in the finals along with Bio Blitz where South 2 dominated and was crowned Champions. South 2 was also awarded for having the fastest game of the tournament, which occurred on Day 1, where they defeated the Average Janes in 46 seconds!


SOCCER

The two day soccer tournament was held in late September and attracted five teams.  Negrodrama and The Big Green were both undefeated after Day 1. Team GFY was split, 1-1 and Kicking and Screaming and the Free Agents were looking for their first wins.  GFY came out strong on Day 2, grabbing two wins and finishing with a 3-1 overall record at the end of the tournament. Undefeated Negrodrama lost its first game at the hands of The Big Green; Big Green eventually suffered a loss to GFY.  GFY, The Big Green and Negrodrama all finished the tournament with matching records, 3-1.
