The Boston chapter of Legatus, the international organization of Catholic CEOs, hosted its June event with Rabbi Joseph H. Ehrenkranz, Executive Director of the CCJU, as the keynote speaker. Rabbi Ehrenkranz spoke on the topic: “World Peace: Whose Problem? Can it Be Solved?” In his presentation, he discussed how peace can be achieved if people are:
• Honest in their beliefs with others (this helps to build an authentic dialogue based on the desire to grow in truth);
• Willing to take risks and reach out in friendship to strangers or adversaries (this results, over time, in mutual respect and trust);
•Willing to accept that people of good will may arrive at completely different solutions to problems. However, as long as both parties propose, not impose, their ideas, as Cardinal Francis Arinze has advocated, common ground will eventually be reached.
Rabbi Ehrenkranz suggested that all great leaders work for peace and that Pope John Paul II, for one, has modeled these leadership qualities. The Legatus event is part of the Center's efforts to promote interreligious dialogue and understanding among lay leaders.
