GALEN TATE
Professor Galen Tate Galen Tate is the Organist and Music Director of Saint Thomas More Church, Darien, Connecticut where he has led a vibrant music ministry since 1990. He received his B.Mus. in Organ Performance from the University of Arkansas and M.Mus. in Organ Performance from the University of Tennessee.

Mr. Tate is a frequent guest in organ concert series throughout the country, recently performing with the United Chorale and Orchestra (Bridgeport) as soloist in Poulenc’s Organ Concerto and in solo recitals at the Cathedral of Saint Mary, San Francisco (CA), St. Mary Church, Newport, (RI) and in the More Music Concert Series, which he directs at St. Thomas More Church. As an accompanist he has enjoyed performing with numerous ensembles, including Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut, United Chorale (Bridgeport), Stamford Chorale, Rockland County, New York Choral Society, Lumina String Quartet, Sax In The City and for the Fairfield County Chorale Summer Sings.  The diversity of his keyboard talents have led him to work with popular artists Joe Utterback, José Feliciano, Frank Patterson, Metropolitan Opera soprano, Betty Jones and with Broadway tenors David Gaschen and Franck Mastrone.  Now in his eleventh year as Choral Accompanist for Fairfield University, he concertizes regularly under the baton of Dr. Carole Ann Maxwell. Recent concert venues have taken him to churches and concert halls in New York City, Philadelphia, Boston and Washington D.C., and abroad to England, Germany, and the Netherlands with the university’s choruses and soloists. Earlier this year, he twice toured Italy as organist with both Fairfield University and the Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut.

Galen has several times been a featured artist for National Pastoral Musicians Conventions, served as Music Director for numerous benefit concerts for the New Covenant House of Hospitality in Stamford, and served as Organist for Temple Beth-El, Stamford. As an instructor, he has taught at Norwalk Community College, Gateway Community College (New Haven) and currently serves on the music faculty of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.  Galen is a member of the American Guild of Organists and is an FAA licensed private pilot.

Galen teaches "Bach to Beethoven," "Brahms to Bernstein," "Music in America," "Beginning Music, Reading and Writing," and "The Business of Music".  He serves as the accompanist for the seclect SHU chamber choir 4 Heart Harmony. You can contact Galen at tateg@sacredheart.edu
