COLLEGE OF BUSINESS COMMEMORATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY WITH ON-CAMPUS REUNION
On March 3 at the William H. Pitt Health and Recreation Center, Sacred Heart University’s newly AACSB-accredited John F. Welch College of Business held a 10th Anniversary Celebration and Reunion.

Eighty-seven former students and 15 current and retired faculty gathered for the four-hour event, the first business-college reunion ever held at SHU. The celebration featured speeches from Dr. Anthony J. Cernera, university president, and Dr. Stephen Brown, dean of the College of Business.

“The inspiration for the event was the feeling that the college needed a celebration for its AACSB accreditation and the fact that it was our tenth anniversary as a college,” said Professor John Gerlach, senior business executive in residence and associate professor  of the College of Business, who led the committee that organized the reunion. “My committee worked very hard to make it a success, and the people who came seemed to have a good time and have encouraged us to do it again.”

The committee was comprised of four alumni from the college: Ray Mencio ’05, Afredita Mustafa ’05, John Grayeski ’01 MBA and Krista Ercoli ’00 MBA.

Attendees were treated to the SHU women’s basketball team’s quarterfinal game of the Northeast Conference Tournament, a commemorative T-shirt, lunch, and Côte du Rhône wine from Gerlach’s vineyard near Avignon, France.

A raffle awarded several prizes, including a gift certificate to People’s Bank, cases of Gerlach’s Côte du Rhône, and season tickets to next year’s SHU football and men’s and women’s basketball games.

The Welch College of Business was accredited by the AACSB in December 2006.
