SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY'S CENTER FOR STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVES CONNECTICUT QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AWARD
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Sacred Heart University’s Center for Strategic Planning for Not-for-Profit Organizations was recently awarded the Connecticut Quality Improvement Award (CQIA) Partnership Innovation Prize. The Center, established within the John F. Welch College of Business to provide business assistance to qualified groups at no cost, gives students the opportunity to apply skills developed during their studies at SHU.
The Center assists not-for-profit organizations with the development and implementation of strategic, business and marketing plans necessary to meet their goals and objectives. Under the guidance of an experienced advisor, teams of MBA students address strategic issues central to the organization's longer-term viability and effectiveness. Through their work for the Center, students provide a valuable service to area non-profits while gaining the type of hands-on experience that transcends the formal academic environment.
The mission of the Center is to engender in the University's MBA students a sense of community and an appreciation for those less fortunate by providing a unique opportunity to give of their talents in the service of others.
The CQIA Innovation Prize was presented to William Joyce and Deacon Daniel Iannello, advisors and board members of the Center for Strategic Planning for Not-for-Profit Organizations, at CQIA’s 19th Annual Conference on Quality and Innovation.
The award recognizes accomplishments during the first stages of the quality journey for all organizations located in Connecticut. It is meant to stimulate interest in organizations to implement quality while fostering recognition of innovative improvements.
The Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Partnership, Inc., America's first state-level quality award, was founded in 1987 using the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for Performance Excellence criteria in an effort to advance innovative programs that improve quality, performance excellence, and marketplace competitiveness.
The Baldrige Award is given by the President of the United States to businesses – manufacturing and service, small and large – and to education and healthcare organizations that apply and are judged to be outstanding in seven areas: leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resource focus, process management, and business results.
No organization from Connecticut has ever won the national Baldrige Award, named after a Connecticut CEO who served as Secretary of Commerce until his death in 1987.
The Center accepts applications for assistance and reviews proposals for future clients on an ongoing basis. For further information or an application for business assistance, contact Deacon Iannello at 203-371-7853 or ianniellod@sacredheart.edu.
