ATHLETIC TRAINING  / STRENGTH & CONDITIONING INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITES

The Boston Red Sox currently have six internship positions open for the 2008 minor league baseball season.  Of the six openings, five of the internships are for 6 months (March - August) and include spending the month of March in Spring Training.  The other position is a 3-month internship (June - August).  Our minor league teams are located in the following cities:  Pawtucket, RI (AAA), Portland, ME (AA), Lancaster, CA (A), Greenville, SC (A), Lowell, MA (SA), and Ft. Myers, FL (R).

Objectives

The primary objective of the program for the Boston Red Sox is to cultivate quality baseball athletic trainers and strength & conditioning specialists. Additionally, the objectives of the Internship are as follows:

  • The Boston Red Sox want to provide each of our minor league teams with one intern to assist the staff athletic trainer for the entire season.
  • The organization seeks to establish a pool of potential candidates for future full time openings with those individuals who are interested in a career in Professional Baseball.
  • We seek to improve the cohesiveness of our strength & conditioning program, organization-wide.

Expectations

The Boston Red Sox expect only quality applicants who are available to complete the entire internship program.  A Bachelors degree is preferred, but not required.  NATA certification, CSCS certification or the ability to sit for these exams along with First Aid/CPR/AED certification is also preferred.  All applicants should also have some experience in the strength & conditioning area.  Prior baseball experience is a plus.

  • Interns will assist the staff athletic trainer with treatments, taping, and rehabilitation duties associated with the minor league club to which the athletic trainer is assigned.
  • The intern will have direct responsibility for implementing the Boston Red Sox strength & conditioning program with their individual team.

What do the Red Sox provide?

SPRING TRAINING:

The Boston Red Sox will provide transportation to and from Ft. Myers, Florida as well as housing at a local hotel during Spring Training.  In addition, each intern will receive an allowance of $20 per day.  Breakfast and lunch are served daily in the clubhouse.

IN-SEASON:

During the regular season, Interns will be paid at a rate of $1,200 per month + a housing allowance.  The full season interns are paid over a 5 month period and the summer interns over a 3 month period.  Housing costs during the regular season are the responsibility of the intern.  While on road trips, interns will receive $32 per day in meal allowances plus the hotel room will be paid by the club. The Red Sox will also pay for the intern’s transportation home at the end of the season.

ORIENTATION/ IN-SERVICES:

The Red Sox will conduct orientation classes with the interns to ensure a full understanding of all aspects of the clubs’ policies & procedures, as well as our strength & conditioning program.
