CXC 2006 WRITING PRIZE WINNERS

VERY LONG Length Category (over 3000 words):

 

First Prize ($100): Michelle Baillargeon – "Mudang Exposed: An Explanation of Female Dominance in Korean Shamanism" (submitted by Dr. Thomas Curran, History).

Baillargeon writes a very interesting paper on Korean Shamanism and the female dominance in that religion.  The paper is written with exceptional details.

 

 

Second Prize ($50): Ashley Hartwell – "Complete Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tears Among Female College Basketball Players: Rehabilitation Techniques" (submitted by Timothy Speicher, Human Movement).

Hartwell gives well-researched scientific reasoning as to the causes of injuries to female basketball players.  Her paper is written very logically and is quite informative.


LONG Length Category (between 1000 and 3000 words):


First Prize ($100)
: James Accuosti – "Ethical Dilemmas With Technology: The Solution Is There" (submitted by Dr. Frances Grodzinsky, Computer Science and Infomation Technology).

Accuosti writes a thought-provoking paper on the ethics of using, buying, and copying software for educational use.  It’s a “must read” for anyone in the field of education.



 



Second Prize ($50): Marielle DiBella – "Corporate Social responsibility and Financial Performance" (submitted by Dr. Jack Woodilla, Business).

DiBella illustrates the balance between social responsibility and financial performance in the corporate world.  Her use of two well-known companies exemplifies her points exquisitely.



 



 


Third Prize ($50)
: Kim Greco – "A Shift in the Domestic Church" (submitted by Dr. Brian Stiltner, Religious Studies).

Greco writes a heartfelt essay about children in the heart of inner city Bridgeport.  With much emotion, she describes their lives and how their moral and social guidelines are formed.
