Course Restrictions – Some courses or sections may have restrictions connected to them. These restrictions may include pre/co-requisites or restrictions to certain majors or student type (i.e. part-time only, senior standing, etc.) If a student passes the restriction rule, they will be able to register for that particular section. If a student does not meet the requirements, registration for that section will not be allowed. Students who receive a waiver of the restriction must get written and dated approval from the department offering the course. Registration requiring special permission must be done in person or the permission must accompany the mail-in or faxed registration form. Visiting and new students may need to provide documentation that course pre-requisites have been met.
Wait-Listing for Closed Courses - If a course is full you may have the option to add yourself to a wait-list. If you add your name to the wait-list, the department offering the course will manage that list. If you are moved from the waitlist into the course or given permission to register from the waitlist, you will receive an automatic email to your SHU email address. You will be given a specific number of days to complete that registration after you are notified. You should establish a SHU network account after you are registered for a class in order to receive emails and notification to enroll in a waitlisted course. Go to SHU Account Management.
On-Line Courses – On-line courses are offered during all sessions. In addition to on-line courses, Sacred Heart University offers ‘Blended' courses. These courses are scheduled to meet for fewer days on campus with additional assignments done on-line. Blended courses are usually identified by their location code such as Fairfield/Blended, Stamford/Blended, etc. Many traditional courses may also use the Blackboard Course Management system to access course content and support in-class work.
Activating On-line Services - Whether you are enrolled in online, blended, or traditional courses utilizing Blackboard or need to establish your email account, you will need to activate your Sacred Heart University Network Account. In order to activate your account you must be a registered student and you will need to know your Student ID number. This number appears on your schedule, on your student accounts bill or can be obtained through the Registrar’s office (203-371-7890) or the Office of Instructional Technology (203-371-8369). You can then create a Network Account by accessing the SHU Account Management system.
Payment – It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that current and prior balances are made by the published due dates. Students who do not meet the payment requirement may be subject to cancellation of their courses.

For Current Sacred Heart Students:
Registration Holds – Students who have holds on their registration will be unable to register until the hold is removed. Such holds include Student Accounts, Public Safety, Health Services, Mobile Computing and Financial Aid. You must contact any department that has placed a hold on your registration to resolve open issues and to have your registration hold released in the computer. Because holds may be placed on your registration at any time, you should view your Registration Restrictions in Web Advisor for the most up-to-date information and take appropriate action. On occasion, a department will temporarily release your hold while you are appealing the information. However, these holds will be automatically put back on your registration each night. In these cases, you need to get written and dated approval from the department and register in-person.
Advising – Advisement holds are not put on summer session registration. However, please contact your advisor if you have any questions about your courses or plan of study.
Registration Using Web Advisor - Information describing this process is available on the Registrar's website. You will be able to search and build your preferred list and then register for your class
Students are encouraged to regularly check their information on Web Advisor and update/correct their information by contacting the appropriate departments. Students may update their address, correct information about their major and advisor, check their registration restrictions, view grades, and review their academic progress by reviewing their degree audits. Students may also create ‘what if' scenarios to understand the impact of making changes such as changing a major, adding a minor, etc.
