FAIRFIELD RESIDENT DR. MICHELLE LORIS NAMED ASSOCIATE DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES AT SHU
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart University Professor of English and Psychology, Dr. Michelle Loris, has been named the Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at the University.
In this role, Dr. Loris will assist the University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences to fully implement the new core curriculum at SHU.
Among her responsibilities, Dr. Loris will work with the faculty on their preparation of the common core curriculum courses, assist the faculty at large to engage in the preparation of instruments and mechanisms for the measurement of learning outcomes associated with the core curriculum, and engage in the long-range planning for faculty and other resources needed to implement the new core curriculum.
Recently, Dr. Loris was instrumental in obtaining final approval from the University’s Board of Trustees for the core curriculum proposal that had been recommended to the President by the University faculty last spring.
“The new core curriculum embodies the striving for excellence in academic studies that is a hallmark of Sacred Heart University. This new core is fundamental to our students becoming knowledgeable and educated persons; it is foundational to their studies in the major, and it is essential preparation for them to take their place in a global and ever-changing world,” stated Dr. Loris.
She will continue to teach two courses per semester.
Dr. Loris holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from Fordham University and a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch/New England Graduate School of Clinical Psychology. She is the author of a book on Joan Didion, the co-editor of a book on Gloria Naylor, and the author of articles on Saul Bellow, Toni Morrison, Willa Cather and other writers. She is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the author and co-author of articles on Traumatic Stress in psychology. She resides in Fairfield, Connecticut.
