DR. ELINA CHRISTOVA, PIANO AND MUSIC THEORY
Dr. Elina Christova was born in 1969 in Sofia, Bulgaria. At six she moved with her family to Vienna, Austria, where she
began her musical education two years later. At ten she was accepted into the Preparatory Division of the Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst in the class of Prof. Hans Graf. Upon her return to her home country in 1983, she graduated from the Music High School and then the Bachelor and Master of Music Programs at the Sofia Music Academy, studying with Prof. Jenny Zaharieva. She was accepted into and completed a one year Piano Specialization program at the Utrecht Conservatorium in Utrecht, Holland, with Prof. Herman Ulhorn in 1990. As of 1996 she has been living in the United States as a Fulbright Grantee, completing both a Master's and Doctoral Degree at Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she studied with Dr. Solomon Mikowsky. During her musical career, she has been an active performer, participating in and winning several national and international competitions, which include the International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Senigalia, Italy, the Piano Competition "Albert Roussel" in Sofia, Bulgaria, the National Piano Competition "Dimitar Nenov" in Razgrad, Bulgaria among others. She has performed as a soloist throughout Europe and the United States, has performed with the Music Academy Orchestra in Sofia, Bulgaria, and has numerous recordings in the archives of both the National Radio and National Television in her home country. She has had the opportunity to take masterclasses with Eugene Istomin, Prof. Hans Graf, Germaine Mounier and Joaquin Soriano, Her repertoire encompasses a wide range of styles, with a particular interest in Spanish, contemporary and Impressionist music. A versatile performer, she appeared in an ensemble performance at Alice Tully Hall in New York in the premiere of the opera "Rain" by Richard Owen in 2002. More recently, in April 2005, she gave her New York debut solo recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as a winner of the Artists International Competition. Elina is also the Organist and Music Director at Holy Cross Church, Trumbull.
