Yale's Father Mark Villano Joins SHU as Director of Campus Ministry

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Father Mark Villano, CSP, M.Div., M.F.A., has joined Sacred Heart University as director of Campus Ministry.

A member of the Paulist Fathers, Father Mark has ministered to university students across the United States. He comes to SHU from his most recent ministry as associate chaplain of the St. Thomas More Center at Yale University, where he served from 2002-2006. From 1998-2002, Father Mark was associate director of the Newman Center at Ohio State University.

In Austin, Texas, he was assigned to an urban parish where he worked with students from the University of Texas. In Los Angeles, he worked at parishes and the campus ministry centers at USC and UCLA where he served as associate director of the University Catholic Center.

At Ohio State, Father Mark taught screenwriting, and he was an adjunct lecturer in religion and the arts at Yale Divinity School. While in Los Angeles, he also served as Director of Creative Development at Paulist Productions, as well as documentary coordinator for the Humanitas Prize, an award given to television and film writers who demonstrate “humanizing achievement in writing.”

As director of Campus Ministry at SHU, Father Mark will coordinate and oversee the administration of the department and its programming. "I see the mission of campus ministry as providing young adults with a vital experience of Church at a time when this can help to shape their future and the future of the wider church and society. As campus ministers, we seek to communicate the acute relevance of the Gospel to students' lives and their future goals," said he said.

Father Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and a Master of Divinity degree, both from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. In 1994, he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Cinema-Television at the University of Southern California.
