A student performance would be an event that involves students being the centers of attention throughout an event: talent shows, Mr. SHU, etc. Due to prior experiences, the Student Activities Office has developed a set of rules and regulations for clubs/organizations to follow.
- A member of the Student Life Staff must preview all performances. Arrangements must be made in advance to schedule a screening. Failure to do this will result in the disqualification of individuals or the cancellation of the event.
- Sacred Heart University is a mission driven institution. Therefore, vulgar or obscene gestures/acts will not be permitted. If students do not exhibit their “talents” or “scripts” in advance or if they refuse to accept the comments of the above judges, then they will be disqualified from the event and will disciplinary action.
- All decisions regarding any of the above issues will be final based on any member of the Student Life Staff's discretion. Failure to respect this decision will result in disciplinary action.
- Candles, matches, sparklers, or any other form of pyrotechnics are prohibited. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- Judges for the event must be a Faculty or Staff member. Students should not be judging other students due to the risk of an unfair bias.
- Cash prizes given to the winners at the conclusion at the event are prohibited. The club/organization representatives are to take the winners' names, addresses, and Social Security Numbers. A check will be processed within 3 weeks of the event.
The club/organization that is coordinating the event may be held responsible for any violation of the above terms, even for those violations that involve the participants. Please keep in mind that the Student Life Department encourages all groups to exhibit the best show that they possibly can, but the shows must be tasteful and in accordance with the rules. If there are any questions regarding the content of a particular event, please contact the Director of Student Activities at 371-7969, or come see her on the second floor of Hawley Lounge.
