RECREATIONAL CLUBS

BALLROOM DANCE CLUB
The purpose of this club is to help students develop confidence, grace, and knowledge of rhythm and dance.   Students will participate in lead/follow activities and learn to Waltz, Fox Trot, Triple Swing, Single Swing, Salsa, Meringue, and Tango.

CAR CLUB
This club provides a venue for automotive enthusiasts to get together and discuss the lastest new cars, motorsports, and teach students how to repair their own cars. Meetings will be held to discuss various car related topics and events will be planned to share the passion and love of cars with others.

COLLEGE DEMOCRATS
The College Democrats is an organization of SHU Democrats committed to their ideals.  They participate in local and state democratic functions, as well as host activities for students on campus.  They also take part in many different conventions that help educate them on pertinent Democratic issues.

COLLEGE REPUBLICANS
College
Republicans are dedicated to increasing Republican ideals throughout campus by hosting events and participation in state-wide and national political activities.  They interact with the College Republican National Committee, and the Connecticut Union on College Republicans.  Throughout the year they host activities that allow them to meet some of the leaders in the Republican Party in both the state and national level.

COUNCIL OF GRADUATE STUDENTS
The Sacred Heart University Council of Graduate Students is a graduate student funded and operated organization established by the graduate students of Sacred Heart University and sanctioned by the University to function as the representative advocate and resource for members of the Sacred Heart University graduate population.

DEBATE SOCIETY
The Debate Society seeks to better a person's logical argumentation and public speaking abilities through parliamentary debate to promote interest and debate competition.  Competitions are all over the Northeast as well as the country.  The team has competed as far away as Australia, California, and Scotland.  

FASHION CLUB 
This club provides students the opportunity to learn, discover, create, and expand on today's fashion in respect to trends, budget, manufacturing, merchandising, designing, and any other factions of the fashion industry.

INDEPENDENT MUSIC CLUB
The Independent Music Club is a venue for fans of music that is not considered mainstream.  Members share music with each other, and host shows featuring local bands, as well as some larger, touring bands, right on campus.  Some bands that have played include At A Loss (Blackout Records), The Distance (Bridge 9 Records), and a number of other local bands from Connecticut.

KAPPA KAPPA PSI COLONY
Kappa Kappa Psi is a national band fraternity. It looks to promote service to the university band programs and to honor outstanding band members through privilege of membership. Membership is offered only to those involved in at least one of the Pioneer band programs. 

MARTIAL ARTS CLUB
The Martial Arts Club offers membership to students who are interested in the martial arts. They hold classes at the University for any students who desire to participate.

MEN'S RUGBY
This club was established in 1992, giving male students the opportunity to learn about the sport of Men's Rugby while developing friendships and loyalty within the Sacred Heart University community.  Visit the Men's Rugby website at http://xmenrfc.googlepages.com/

MOCK TRIAL TEAM 
The Mock Trial Team competes against other universities while expanding the knowledge of the various parts and details of the legal system to its members.

OUTING CLUB
This club goes hiking, backpacking, skiing, whitewater rafting, and rock climbing.  They also bring in guest speakers to teach certain outdoor skills.  This club also participates in other campus community service events. 

SHU FREESTYLE CLUB
The SHU Freestyle Club provides a venue for students to display their freestyle abilities in various categories.  The club sponsors many major campus-wide events, including rap battles, dance-offs, basketball tournaments, and DJ contests.

STUDENT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (SAA)
The Student Alumni Association works closely with the Office of Institutional Advancement to create relationships with current students that will last long after graduation. The main event is Homecoming Weekend every October.

WOMEN'S FIELD HOCKEY
This club offers students the opportunity to participate in a collegiate and competitive atmosphere as a field hockey player. Daily practices and games are just some of the highlights. This team, although relatively new to club sports is a very popular activity at SHU.

WOMEN'S CLUB SOCCER
This is a club sport for women who love to play soccer, but not at the Varsity level. The commitment level is slightly higher than an intramural sport, but all the more rewarding in the end. It is a growing program and one that is built upon each year.

WOMEN'S RUGBY
Women's rugby works together as a team on and off the field.  Experience is not required, but you must be able to focus.  The season begins in the fall, and continues throughout the Spring with a few scheduled tournaments.  There are approximately six games per semester.
