HOW WAS MY FAMILY'S NEED DETERMINED?
A: There are different types of aid - federal, state and private - and different formulas for determining a family's eligibility or need for aid. The federal government has its own formula, which is used for federal aid, such as the Pell Grant, College Work-Study and the Subsidized Stafford Loan. The government utilizes the information your family supplied on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For state aid, different states have different requirements. Check with your State Department of Higher Education. In Connecticut, there is the CICSG (Connecticut Independent College Student Grant) program, which provides grants to state residents who attend a private university in state. For private aid, Sacred Heart will use the information you supplied on the FAFSA, as well as the information you supplied on the College Scholarship Service's Profile Form.
