Classes are offered at both The University of Connecticut in Storrs and at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, providing ROTC to students at fourteen universities and colleges. More than 200 students take ROTC in Connecticut every year including students from business, engineering, nursing and nearly all other academic fields.

During the freshman and sophomore years, ROTC is an elective that meets one hour per week. Students may also attend one or more of the weekly leadership labs held during the semester. These labs, augmented by three voluntary weekend training sessions, get students out of the classroom and into exciting hands-on training.

Juniors and seniors must be qualified to become Army officers. They can become qualified through the freshman and sophomore classes, by completing basic training, or by attending a five-week summer camp run by the Army.

Qualified students sign a contract that commits them to service in the active Army, the national guard or the Army Reserves. Advanced course cadets enroll in a three-credit class and attend all leadership labs. Students study advanced leadership skills, ethics, operational planning and the role of a platoon leader in the U.S. Army. Cadets attend the National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Washington the summer between their junior and senior year.

In addition to exciting adventure training, Connecticut ROTC offers several extracurricular activities. The Ranger Challenge Team is a group of cadets who train in infantry tactics and techniques and participate in an annual competition. They compete against cadets from other ROTC programs.

Cadets may also have an opportunity to attend additional training programs such as Airborne, Air Assault and Northern Warfare Schools.
