FACULTY & STAFF
Gary L. Rose, Ph.D., is the Chairman of the Department of Government and Politics. His teaching and research interests include American Politics, American Presidency, Presidential Elections, Constitutional Law, State and Local Government, and Political Parties. Dr. Rose joined the SacredHeartUniversity faculty in 1982. His books include:

He is a frequent commentator for various media regarding national and Connecticut politics. Dr. Rose received his Ph.D. from Miami University (Ohio) in 1982.
 


Steven Michels, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Political Science, joined the SacredHeartUniversity faculty in the Fall of 2002. A specialist in the field of political theory, Dr. Michels offers several theory courses, including Foundations of Political Thought, Theories of Political Economy, and Democracy. His articles and chapters include work in theory (Plato, Tocqueville, Nietzsche), higher education policy, and popular culture (The Daily Show, Bruce Springsteen). He is currently researching the theory and practice of democracy. Dr. Michels received his Ph.D. from Loyola University Chicago.

Lesley DeNardis, Ph.D., joined the faculty of
Sacred
HeartUniversity in 2006.  Her teaching and research interests  include American Government, Public Policy and Public Administration, Latin American Politics and Political Economy.  Prior to joining the Government faculty at SHU, she taught at New MexicoStateUniversity and in the Public Management program at the University of New Haven.  Dr. DeNardis has presented papers at political science conferences and has published articles in scholarly journals.  A former local elected official, she has also advised state and local government in a variety of public management areas.  Dr. DeNardis received her Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in 2002.

Alka Jauhari received her M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from Lucknow University in India. Her areas of specialization include international organizations, international law, South Asian politics, and African politics. Her doctoral dissertation is titled “Africa and the Super Powers.” Her areas of research focus on third world politics with particular emphasis on the politics of Africa.  Dr. Jauhari has presented papers regarding African political development at several professional conferences. She has been teaching at the University for many years, and was added to the full-time faculty as an Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2009.
