Gary L. Rose, Ph.D., is the Chairman of the Department of Government and Politics. His teaching and research interests include American Politics, American Presidency, Presidential Elections, Constitutional Law, State and Local Government, and Political Parties. Dr. Rose joined the
Sacred Heart University faculty in 1982. His books include:

Connecticut Government at the Millennium;
The American Presidency Under Siege;
Connecticut Politics at the Crossroads;
Connecticut Government and Politics: An Introduction; The Emerging Catholic Electorate; and two editions of
Controversial Issues in Presidential Selection. He is a frequent commentator for various media regarding national and
Connecticut politics. Dr. Rose received his Ph.D. from
Miami University (
Ohio) in 1982.

John F. Kikoski, Ph.D., joined the faculty at Sacred Heart University in 1980. His teaching and research interests include International Relations, American Foreign Policy, Leadership, Public Administration and Comparative Government. He is a frequent media commentator regarding Middle East and international politics. His publications include several scholarly articles in professional journals and two books, The Inquiring Organization; and Reflexive Communication in the Culturally Diverse Workplace. Dr. Kikoski received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in 1972.

Steven Michels, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Political Science, joined the Sacred Heart University faculty
in the Fall of 2002. A specialist in the field of political theory, Dr. Michels offers several theory courses including, Ancient and Medieval Political Thought, Modern Political Thought, and American Political Thought. His articles and chapters include work in theory (Plato, Tocqueville, Nietzsche), higher education policy, and popular culture (The Daily Show, Bruce Springsteen). He is currently researching the role of equality in contemporary liberalism. Dr. Michels received his Ph.D. from Loyola University Chicago in 2002. Dr. Michels is also the director of the Honors Program at Sacred Heart.

Lesley DeNardis, Ph.D., joined the faculty of
Sacred Heart University in 2006.
Her teaching and research interests include American Government, Public Policy and Public Administration, Latin American Politics and Political Economy.
Prior to joining the Government faculty at SHU, she taught at
New Mexico State University and in the Public Management program at the
University of New Haven.
Dr. DeNardis has presented papers at political science conferences and has published articles in scholarly journals.
A former local elected official, she has also advised state and local government in a variety of public management areas.
Dr. DeNardis received her Ph.D. from the
University of Connecticut in 2002.
