We encourage all Media Studies and Communication and Technology Studies majors to experience at least one internship before they graduate, and many majors complete two or three. In addition to completing internships at all of the top corporate media outlets, some students choose to focus on community outreach and teacher training opportunities depending on their career goals and personal interests. Internships are an important part of the major because they allow students to apply what they are learning in the classroom to a "real world" situation. At the same time, students learn new skills on the internship site that can then be applied in their future coursework and projects. This relationship between theory and practice is central to the entire MSDC curriculum, as is the focus on students applying their critical thinking and production skills in a variety of contexts. In addition, by working with leading professionals at premiere media and communications companies and organizations, internships help to prepare Sacred Heart graduates for life and a career after college, while also networking with potential employers and future colleagues.
