LAMBDA SIGMA PHI FRATERNITY
Locally Founded: 1996
Colors: Hunter Green and Silver
We the brothers of Lambda Sigma Phi have watched and listened to stories dealing with abuse of women in all forms: verbally, mentally, emotionally and sexually. This sexual abuse is often referred to as harassment or on a more serious level - rape. Instead of fighting this sensitive topic alone, we decided to form as one - one brotherhood united as a means to educate the Sacred Heart community, the surrounding area and ourselves about the consequences of this type of abuse.
We have dedicated ourselves to this mission - to protect women, especially on the SHU campus. Our brotherhood intends to grow, not only as a fraternity, but as a symbol of this universal message to all. We have assisted with services in the community and have given lectures to educate more people about this topic.
Together we have accomplished community service hours and held various events. In the past we have held SHU's first annual Date Rape and Sexual Abuse Awareness Week; which included a survivor's story, a mock trial, a self-defense course and our annual Candle Light Vigil (co-sponsored by A.L.I.V.E.). The brotherhood also reached a personal goal by successfully helping Student Government and the administration put up a Blue Light Emergency Phone System on this campus.
Our hope, as a fraternity, is to continue building on the foundations of our mission as we continue to accomplish our set goals. To the founding brothers of Lambda Sigma Phi, our organization signifies a “touch of reality.”
