TIMOTHY E. SPEICHER, MS, ATC, LAT, CSCS

Tim is originally from Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed his B.S. in Athletic Training at Towson University in 1995. He received his graduate training from Marshall University, earning a M.S. in Health Sciences and Physical Education in 1998, where he served as Clinical Supervisor and Certified Athletic Trainer to the undergraduate Athletic Training Education Program and Strength and Conditioning Coach to the Men’s Soccer Team. Tim became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 1995. He is currently pursing a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Adult Learning from the University of Connecticut.

He is currently employed at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut where he serves as Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Human Movement and Sports Science Program, which offers athletic training and exercise science undergraduate majors. Previously, he served as Program Director of the Athletic Training Program at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. His teaching assignments have included problem-based learning courses, emergency medicine, orthopedic assessment, prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses, therapeutic modalities, general medicine, and rehabilitation.

Tim has worked in a variety of clinical environments with various populations and age groups. These have included the collegiate, high school, hospital, outpatient rehabilitation, industrial and Olympic settings.  He is also owner of HEALTHWORKS, LLC; a company providing physical medicine and rehabilitation to the active population.

His research interests include transfer of learning from the academic to clinical environments, therapeutic modalities, positional release therapy and ADL education for low back pain. Tim is professionally active through consulting, publication and presentation and currently serves as President-Elect for the Connecticut Athletic Trainers’ Association. Tim’s most recent work on Positional Release Therapy (PRT): Top 10 Positional Release Therapy Techniques to Break the Chain of Pain—Part I and II,  were published this past year in Athletic Therapy Today. In his personal time, he enjoys mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, and cycling.
