Dr. Strong holds an Ed.D. in Nursing Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, a MSN from Catholic University in Washington DC, and a BSN from the University of Bridgeport.  She has extensive experience in the fields of Community / Public Health Nursing and Community Based practice, having worked for more than 20 years in a variety of clinical sites and home health care.  As a generalist Dr. Strong has worked with all populations along the lifespan, during her nearly five years in home health care she developed a special interest in family health promotion and terminal –end of life – hospice nursing care.  Prepared at the master's degree level in Community Health Nursing she has developed a keen appreciation and ability to work in interdisciplinary settings, as work in health promotion, health protection, and illness prevention required her to engage in practice that combined talents of numerous practitioners working together to resolve health challenges.

As a nursing faculty member Dr. Strong has taught at several universities including the University of Massachusetts /Amherst, Montana State University, and Southern Connecticut University. During her ten years at Sacred Heart University she has been primarily responsible for teaching the senior level undergraduate Community Health Nursing course to both first professional degree and to BSN completion students.  She has supervised students in clinical internships in such settings as Occupational Health, School Health, Adult Day Care, and Adult Health Promotion Clinics and in these settings students have completed such projects as the establishment of health education support groups for people with diabetes, recording oral histories of older adults with Alzheimer's disease, developing and producing health education pamphlets on helping families cope with urinary incontinence of an older member, and the development of a community garden and cookbook with residents of low-income housing for the elderly.

Dr. Strong's research interests include: health promotion in older populations, faith based health promotion with older populations, and health promotion with older culturally diverse populations.  She has presented her work at conferences of the Gerontological Society of America, American Public Health Association, American Physical Therapy Association, and at national conferences for nursing educators, including the University of Washington in Seattle, and Cleveland State University.  Her work has been funded by the Allied Health Program/Health & Human Services, and by the Inner City Foundation for Charity and Education.   She is founder and co-director of the St. Charles/SHU Health and Wellness Center in Bridgeport CT, where she coordinates health screening, health education, and referrals for primary care needs in a medically underserved community.
