Mary Ellen Johnson joined the Department of Occupational Therapy and Graduate Program in Geriatric Health and Wellness in the summer of 2002.  She brings to both programs extensive experience in subacute rehabilitation and long term care, from the perspectives of both health care provider and administrator.  In the problem-based program in Occupational Therapy, Mary Ellen is coordinator for the semester that focuses on care and rehabilitation of older adults, and is responsible for supportive courses focusing on the health care system, and on health care ethics.  In the graduate program in Geriatric Health and Wellness, Mary Ellen focuses on health care ethics and health policy, and serves as capstone advisor to students interested in administrative issues.  She is also coordinator of the faculty practice in the Department of Occupational Therapy, and a valuable resource for students and faculty on use of software and internet in education.

Mary-Ellen Johnson is a graduate of Dominican College's occupational therapy program, has earned a Masters in Health Systems Management from Sacred Heart University, and holds a nursing home administrator's license.  Mary-Ellen's primary area of practice has been in geriatrics, and she is the co-chair of the Geriatric Special Interested Section for the Connecticut Occupational Therapy Association and is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association.  She especially enjoys working with non-traditional and adult students, and is fully committed to interdisciplinary teaming as a foundation for high quality health care for older adults.
