ONLINE LEARNING
Online courses offer a student-centered learning environment, with the faculty member acting as a facilitator rather than director of learning.  Students enrolled in online courses find that they:

  • have more flexibility over when and where work is done
  • are able to guide their own learning
  • learn technology by using technology
  • are able to pursue ideas in an independent manner.
  • interact with other students and create a community of learners
  • participate in provocative online discussions held in a group format.
  • work with colleagues and instructors from many different geographical locations

Online courses are not easy, fast-paced replacements for regular on-campus classes. They require self-motivation and a serious approach to learning, as much of the coursework is done individually without the in-person guidance of the instructor. Students choosing online programs must be self-directed and self-disciplined, have a positive attitude and excitement about learning, and have the appropriate computer resources and dependable email and internet access.
