IN MEMORIAM: PROFESSOR KEVIN K. BLOUNT

Dr. Kevin K. Blount, assistant professor of Mathematics since 2002, died Tuesday, May 30th, from complications following a stroke.
He was a top student at the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981 and a Master of Science degree in 1987. Professor Blount received his doctorate in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University in 1999, with a dissertation βOn the Structure of Residuated Lattices.β He came to Sacred Heart University from Boston College, and he had also taught in Nashville, Atlanta, and Gainesville, Florida. His Sacred Heart courses included Calculus and Pre-Calculus; College, Business and Abstract Math; and Real Analysis.
While his professional research interests were Universal Algebra and Lattice Theory, he was a man of many passions. Highly skilled in computer use, he had also studied French, German, Russian, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. Kevin's personal website listed his entire collection of CDs and videos. The latter included cinema classics from around the world β and just about anything Woody Allen has ever made. The website's many photographs range from essays of his trips to China and Japan to shots of his 16-year-old cat, Tim-Tim.
Kevin leaves his wife of six years, Xiaoyo Blount.
A memorial service will take place on campus on Saturday, June 17th at 2:00 p.m. in University Commons. Kevin's family requests that donations in his name be made to WSHU.
