Creating links within Synthenet's content management system is quick and easy to do. There are several different ways to create a link, whether it's a link within the content area of a page, or a link within your site navigation. Follow these simple steps below:
Inserting Links within a Page
To create a link to an existing page on the SHU website:
Open the page you wish the link to appear on. Highlight the text in the content area you wish to link the page from. In the pages tree, move the cursor to the page that you wish to link to. Click and select "create link".
If you need to create a link to a web page that does not appear in your pages tree, please contact Web Content Management, and Nancy Boudreau or Kim Galiette can create the link for you.
To create a link to a document:
Open the page you wish the link to appear on and then switch from the pages tree to the document tree. In the content area of the page you are editing, highlight the text you wish to link the document from. Move your cursor to the document in the document tree that you wish to link to. Click and select "create link".
If you need to create a link to a document that you do not have access to, please notify Web Content Management, and Nancy Boudreau or Kim Galiette can create the link for you.
To create a link to an external website:
Open the page you wish the link to appear on. Highlight the text in your content area that you wish to create the link from. Click on the hyperlink icon (looks like a chain link) in your formatting toolbar. A pop up box will appear and prompt you to enter the link or web address you want to link to. URL's should be entered completely, such as http://www.yahoo.com. In the target drop down box, select "new window" so the website will open up in a new browser when the user clicks on the link.
To create a link to an email address:
Open the page you wish the link to appear on. You can either type in the email address and hit return or you can link to email from other highlighted text. Highlight the text in your content area that you wish to create the link from. Click on the hyperlink icon (looks like a chain link) in your formatting toolbar. A pop up box will appear and prompt you to enter the address you want to link to. Enter "mailto:" and then the full email address. For example, mailto:smithj@sacredheart.edu This is all one word, no spaces. The target should remain "self".
Inserting Links within the Navigation
You may insert or append a link within your navigation. In your pages tree, place your cursor on the page you wish the link to appear below, and select either insert or append link depending upon which level you wish the link appear:

Once you click on select or append link, a dialog box will appear on the right side of your screen, and you will be prompted to fill out the required fields. Select the link type you want from the link type drop down box.
If you are linking to an existing page, select "link to existing page in the page tree". Click on the page in your page tree you wish to link to and select "assign item". Once you assign the page, the page name will appear after the "internal link" field
